Cloudy but calm

Buachaille Etive Mor today. A bit cloudier than yesterday, but light winds and dry, so generally quite nice mountain conditions. Certainly seemed to be plenty of people out and about on the hills of Glen Coe today.

Fresh snow on the little Buachille.

Looking South West along Buachille Etive Beag to Stob Dubh. There has been a light covering of fresh snow down to a few hundred metres above sea level. There has been some drifting at higher levels.  Although poorly bonded to the old neve, the fresh deposits tend not to be particularly extensive or deep.

More snow, more wind.

Cracking of the snowpack below my feet, a sign of instability.

Lots of snow being blown around on Stob a Choire Odhair.

Blowing snow

Snow showers and strong winds in Glen Coe today. Plenty of snow being blown about.

Saturday, January 21, 2012

Windy day.

A windy one in Glen Coe today. There were snow showers through the day, and there was a fair bit of snow being blown around. From some angles the hill look quite bare because all the snow has been blown off slopes exposed to the wind, depositing it all on sheltered lee slopes.

Friday, January 20, 2012

After a nice bright start it clouded over today. Very little new snow and the winds were not too bad so I headed up to Stob Corrie Nam Beith. Corrie is holding snow but the quantity varies.
Saturday is due to be a windy day.
At the summit, guess which way the wind has been blowing?!

Heading back down the ridge.                                    Looking back across the Corrie to the ridge.

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

After some rain overnight, the freezing level dropped resulting in a very refrozen snowpack.  Perhaps the forecasted snow will give it a more wintry look.

Looking towards the Aonach Eagach from the col on Buaichaille Etive Beag.

Looking towards Ben Nevis/Mamores from Stob Dubh.

Lagangarbh this morning.  Not much rain or wind so I'll take it as a good day! Snow is mostly in higher North to East Corries.

Thawing today

Thawing, but still plenty of snow in glen coe at high levels.

Tuesday, January 03, 2012

Windy with blowing snow.

A fair bit of snow has fallen at Glen Coe ski area over the past few days.

Windy with plenty of snow blowing about.

Winter returns to Glen Coe

Fresh snow down to about 200 metres made of slow going on the A82.

Looking over to Buachille Etive Mor during a brief clear spell.

Snowing heavily at the pit site.
